This site is based on The British List: A Checklist of Birds of Britain (10^th edition), updated 11 December 2025 published by the British Ornithologists’ Union.

The Hertfordshire List is taken from the County List as at 31 December 2024 on the Hertfordshire Bird Club website.

Name Details

Derivations for generic and specific names are based on information from the Helm Dictionary of Scientific Birds Names (2010 edition) by James A Jopling, with a fair amount of freedom of interpretation and no claim to particular accuracy.
